Arriving by Car? 

Depending on traffic, the ride to Niagara from key Canadian cities is typically just over an hour from Toronto, about four hours from Kingston, six hours from Ottawa, and seven hours from Montreal. 

Visitors driving to Niagara from the United States have a choice of four border crossings: Rainbow Bridge (Niagara Falls), Whirlpool Bridge (for Nexus holders in Niagara Falls), Lewiston/Queenston Bridge (closer to Niagara-on-the-Lake), and Peace Bridge (Fort Erie). The drive is typically about 30 minutes from Buffalo, under two hours from Rochester, under three hours from Syracuse, under four hours from Cleveland and Detroit, and under seven hours from New York City. It’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with Canadian Border Services' protocols and required travel documents before crossing the border.  

 

Travelling By Train? 

There are three rail lines that offer transportation to and from Niagara. 

GO Transit offers convenient daily service between Toronto and Niagara, as well as shuttle bus service between different Niagara GO Train stations. 

VIA Rail and Amtrak also offer service to and from Niagara from Canada and the U.S

 

Catching A Bus? 

Convenient year-round service to Niagara through GO TransitCoach Canada, and Greyhound/FlixBus makes getting to Niagara by bus a breeze. 

 

Flying Into The Area? 

Niagara is fortunate to have four international airports as its neighbours. Getting to Niagara is an extremely convenient car or shuttle ride from Toronto Pearson International AirportBuffalo Niagara USA International AirportJohn C. Munro Hamilton International Airport, and Niagara Falls USA International Airport.  

Exciting upgrades at Niagara District Airport, located in Niagara-on-the-Lake, are also being planned to transform it into a modern regional gateway that will bring commercial passenger flights into the region. Stay tuned!

Looking to explore?

After arriving in Niagara, there are a wide variety of ways for travellers without their own transportation to explore the area.

With over 200 unique cycling routes and several bike rental companies, bringing or renting a bike is a really fun way to get out and about in Niagara.

WEGO, a state-of-the-art bus system operating throughout Niagara Falls, offers visitors hop-on, hop-off access to the city’s attractions and accommodations and Niagara Parks properties. There is also a convenient shuttle to Niagara-on-the-Lake. GO Transit tickets can also be packaged with WEGO passes, for the all-in-one ease of a single transportation ticket.

Niagara’s Regional Transit system offers a fully-accessible and convenient connection linking Niagara’s major cities, including Niagara Falls, Welland, St. Catharines, Port Colborne, and Fort Erie. Bus and microtransit service options are available seven days a week, twelve months of the year.
