Things to Do in Niagara : December

As the holidays & winter season gain momentum in December, the Niagara Region has plenty of exciting events.
 
From the Winter Festival of Lights and Holiday Season Tours to Live Entertainment and Family-Friendly activities, this month is filled with fabulous events.
 
Here is a line-up of some of the most interesting programmes this December:
 
Deck the Falls Holiday Tour
Date: December weekends, 2017
Venue: Fallsview Blvd.
 
Feel the holiday spirit with the Deck the Falls Holiday Tour.
This walking tour takes place during the first 3 weekends (Fridays & Saturdays) of December, from 5:00pm – 10:00pm. With your Deck the Falls Tour Pass, you will receive vouchers that can be redeemed at several points on Fallsview Blvd. The pass is your gateway to sample holiday food, beverages, desserts and other tasty treats. Games, workshops, live music, photo opportunities and more make this tour a truly fun-filled one.
Winter Festival of Lights–Laser Light Shows
Date: December 22, 2017 – January 7, 2018
 
Ontario Power Generation Winter Festival of Lights has several events lined up from November 18, 2017 to January 31, 2018. Besides fabulous illuminations along the Niagara Parkway and other tourist areas, you can also watch fantastic laser shows from December 22 onwards. There are four shows beginning every hour from 5.30 p.m. onwards and each show has a duration of 15 minutes. Between each show, you can grab an opportunity to go to the interactive laser booth where you can make a picture or pen a message in laser lights. Admission to the show is free!
 
The Little Mermaid
December 9, 10, 15 and 16, 2017
Venue: Scotiabank Convention Centre
 
The Little Mermaid is a wonderful show for the entire family and one that kids will absolutely love. It is based on the original classic by Hans Christian Andersen as well as Disney’s version of the same. An endearing story of love and friendship, the show will be staged during two weekends–December 9, 10, 15 and 16.
 
Live By the Falls Burton Cummings & Band
December 29, 2017
Venue: Scotiabank Convention Centre
 
Burton Cummings spearheaded the Canadian rock band The Guess Who, and released several successful albums and songs. He will be performing some of the band’s greatest hits as well as his popular songs as a solo artiste. American Woman, No Time, Laughing, Undun, These Eyes and other songs by the band are popular with audiences. Watch him perform live at the Scotiabank Convention Centre!
 
New Year’s Eve Gala
Date: December 31, 2017
Venue: Greg Frewin Theatre
 
Bring 2017 to a close on an entertaining note and welcome the New Year with a scintillating New Year’s Eve Gala–Vegas Style. The exciting evening includes a scrumptious buffet dinner, and a delightful performance by illusionist and magician Greg Frewin. Dance along to the live band that features The Associates who will rock the evening with their renditions of songs by popular bands including Guns n Roses, Maroon 5 and others. Your countdown to the New Year is going to be highly enjoyable with this amazing gala!
 
FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre
 
There are several interesting events at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre to keep you entertained all through December. Watch a tribute to the King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley by Pete Paquette with special guest Amberley Beatty. The show Elvis: A Christmas Special features some of Elvis’ greatest Christmas songs. Get motivated by the camaraderie of The Men of the Deeps, a musical show inspired by the folklore of coal mining communities. More entertainment is in store with Suitcase in Point – Holiday Cabaret, a sketch comedy show, and Big Band Christmas featuring a 20-piece Big Band and jazz pianist John Sherwood. Sing and dance to the foot-tapping numbers from the movie musical Grease with Sing-A-Long Grease. Watch the songs and sing along as the lyrics appear on screen. It’s so much fun!
A Swingin’ Christmas with Toronto All-Star Big Band
Date: December 16, 2017
Venue: St Mark’s Church
 
The 1930s to the 1950s were the Golden Age of Swing and you can enjoy the best music of those times during the show A Swingin’ Christmas with Toronto All-Star Big Band. Feel the spirit of the holiday season as you travel back in time to the swinging music of those decades.
 
Besides this go for Ghost Walks of Niagara-on-the-Lake in December, and have fun with your family and friends at Fort George Garrison Christmas. Activities, games, crafts and other interesting programmes are lined-up at this event.

 

Fireside Fridays at Westcott Vineyards – Jordan, Lincoln
 
Get all warmed up during winter with delicious food and wine during Fireside Fridays at Westcott Vineyards. Every Friday till December 15, there will be a special menu and a chef will cook over the fire. Enjoy appetizers, mains, desserts and wines at this wonderful event.
