Can you feel the love tonight?
From a stroll through the vineyards (with a tasting, of course) to watching the lights from the city skyline reflect off the bouncing water, we’ve packed this sample two-day itinerary with events and activities that are sure to make you fall in love all over again.
DAY 1
A VINE ROMANCE
The Niagara Escarpment is home to some of the world’s most unique soil. As a result it’s perfect for wine making. Start your day relaxing and being guided through Niagara’s coveted wine country, stopping along the way at wineries like Peller Estates to sample some of the award-winning wines. Stroll past the growing vines at other vineyards in the region like Trius Winery at Hillebrand and Stratus.
WHO KNEW LUNCH COULD BE ROMANTIC?
All that relaxing can make you hungry. Good thing some of the wineries in the region also have restaurants attached where award-wining chefs serve up a menu of locally grown ingredients that pair perfectly with the wines they make. Stop into Kitchen 76, in the Two Sisters winery. The only thing that will stop you from staring into your loved one’s eyes are the incredible Italian-inspired dishes and view of the attached vineyard.
OLD TOWN, NEW LOVE
Next, head into the historic town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Few places have the romantic backdrop of this picturesque place. With a history dating back to the 1700’s, you’ll want to explore every corner that feels like a fairy tale. Stroll down main street with a guide as you learn about the historic moments and people that have called this place home. Or take a tour of the stately mansions and elegant homes in the area.
A FLAIR FOR THE DRAMATICS
Niagara is home to a world-renowned theatre festival, celebrating the works and art of George Bernard Shaw. People flock from every corner of the globe to take in a performance here. Treat your special someone to a night of riveting entertainment that is sure to leave you talking into the wee hours of the morning.
Keep in mind, Shaw Festival is very popular, so you often need to book your tickets in advance.
A PLACE TO LAY YOUR HEAD
After a long, memorable day you’ll want a place to unwind. Choose from one of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s magical B&B’s or quaint and historical inns. From 200-year-old historic homes to modern palaces, there’s something for every taste. Speaking of taste – many of the B&B’s have in-house chefs who whip up gourmet meals in the morning. What’s more romantic than waking up next to your special someone with the smell of fresh coffee in the air?
DAY 2
STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES
Start your second day in Niagara off with a walk through the beautiful botanical gardens. This pristine garden, built in 1936, houses exotic flowers with scents and colours that make for a perfectly amorous morning. The pièce de résistance is the world-famous rose garden with over 2,400 roses. Consider the mood set for the rest of the day.
THE PERFECT SOUNDTRACK
If you’re visiting in the summer then a must do is the TD Niagara Jazz festival. What better way to spend the day than sitting on a patio, under the summer sun, sipping local wines and sampling craft beers to a soundtrack of soothing jazz. Enjoy incredible performances all day as you watch the sun dip into the backdrop.
A GOOD MEAL IS THE WAY TO THE HEART
As your romantic getaway comes to a close, treat yourself to the meal of a lifetime. Treadwell Farm to Table Cuisine is an incredible restaurant that blurs the lines between food and art. Impress your partner with a meal that would make even the most hardcore foodie jealous. It goes without saying that Treadwell’s wine list is one to blush over.
THE SPARKLE IN THEIR EYE
As the sun sets you need a way to end your trip on a high note. Picture this: You sit on a patio under the stars sipping the finest local wine as a catamaran pulls up. You board the boat and it carries you past the Falls. The reflection from the city skyline illuminates your special someone’s face and a rainbow of colours reflect in their eyes as the Falls are illuminated with dazzling colours. What you do then is up to you.
Show that special person in your life how much you care with a visit to one of the most romantic places in the world: Niagara.
